Turn on store pages and every location gets its own URL, with the map, address, hours and directions already on it. That gives search engines one page per store to index, instead of a single locator page for all of them.

Location data is loaded in a single batch and settings in a single query, so a locator with hundreds of stores stays quick. The map itself can be held back until the visitor gives consent.

With OpenStreetMap, address lookups are made by your server, not the visitor's browser, and every result is saved in your database. The same search is only sent out once.

The appearance editor, section editor and fields manager cover most customizations without code. For everything else, stores are ordinary WordPress posts and nearly every output runs through a filter, so a few lines in your theme go a long way.
